When I seen the Coke commercial last night of America the - TopicsExpress

When I seen the Coke commercial last night of America the Beautiful being sung in several different languages, I was pissed. Since then, I have seen a lot of comments debating the whether it was offensive or not. Of course the people that state their distaste for the commercial are being called racist and ignorant. Well as an American I believe everyone is entitled to freedom of speech. But by slandering the people by saying they are ignorant or racist is even more offensive. I am by no means a racist and those of you that know me know that. I am however an American father, son, and veteran and I consider myself patriotic. That being said my so called racist and ignorant opinion is as follows: America the Beautiful is an official American Patriotic song (there has even been debates to change it to our National Anthem) it should be sung in the English language, if for no other reason than the fact that patriotism is defined by Webster’s “love that people feel for their country or devotion to ones country,” and by Wikipedia as generally cultural attachment to ones homeland or devotion to ones country”. Now being one of the accused ignorant racist I know that there is no official language as defined by the Federal Government for this great nation, however several states including the State of Indiana, my state of residence, do. (INDIANA STATUTES; Section 1-2-10-1 - State Language (1984): “The English language is adopted as the official language of the state of Indiana.”). I would also like to quote President Theodor Roosevelt by saying “We should insist that if the immigrant who comes here does in good faith become an American and assimilates himself to us he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed or birth-place or origin. But this is predicated upon the mans becoming in very fact an American and nothing but an American. If he tries to keep segregated with men of his own origin and separated from the rest of America, then he isnt doing his part as an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. . . We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding-house; and we have room for but one soul loyalty, and that is loyalty to the American people.” Therefore, I feel that I am with in my rights to state and express my opinion that I am offended by Coke’s commercial, during America’s largest sporting event, without being slandered. For those people out there that opinions differ than mine feel free to scream at the top of your lungs that I am wrong, but if you play the ignorant racist card on me, grow the hell up and be grateful that I don’t violate your Civil Rights by knocking the teeth out of your unpatriotic mouth.
