When I tell people to wear sting ray resistant shoes/boots, some dont want to hear what Im saying... in my 17 years of guiding and more wadefishing worldwide, I probably saw a couple of dozen of people hit by stings, and their crying-in-pain faces convinced me to always be cautious - not to mention health issues happening after. Look at this video from Saltyshores - that says all it can happen, but what you dont see is the venom effect and the pain... I just let you imagine a little bit.
