When I was 12 years old I joined an after school program called Academy of Rock. I started out playing cover songs with kids I hardly knew and was taught a lot of lessons on how to kick ass by Nick Tarlowski. Around age 13 I was approached by Jason Schmit about a band that needed a new lead vocalist to play with them. It just so happened that the band was Learning to Fall. I met up with Nicholas, Michael, Johnny, and Sean for our very first practice at the old Campus Life building. There we wrote our first song titled Another Face in the Crowd. Right away we were all just in sync. We were AWESOME. I couldnt have imagined a better opportunity to be involved in. I was 13 and I was writing my own songs, playing shows that we had booked ourselves, and even traveling a little bit to share what we had done together. Ill never forget going to Warped Tour one year and seeing A Day to Remember headline, only to get a call the next day asking if we could open up for them at Sokol. At my age that was seriously the coolest thing ever. We recorded our first EP in a basement with Matt Hova and that was also when I discovered that I could sleep through anything including Sean recording his guitar tracks in the same room only a couple of feet away from me. For 3 years this band was what I put my heart and soul into. Life is funny though and people grow up and apart. Little did we know that our last show together would be an acoustic set at the Zoo Bar for Lincoln Exposed back in early 2012. Im not even sure what really happened, we just werent a band anymore all of a sudden. It was tough to get used to not playing a show every weekend, not seeing my bandmates and best friends all the time, and especially losing my creative outlet that I had somewhat taken for granted. Weve all moved on with our lives and musical endeavors now, but we want to do it one last time together. This Saturday at Knickerbockers is that time.
