When I was a boy, my parents were very active in the VFW. - TopicsExpress

When I was a boy, my parents were very active in the VFW. Veterans of Foreign Wars. We went to potluck dinners, and bake sales, Bingo nights, and all sorts of fund raisers, volunteer work and such, all for the benefit of Veterans. I met men and women who served in all manner of wars. My great great uncle served in the military in the Spanish-American War in the 1890s. I knew maybe three dozen WWI veterans, and literally hundreds of WWII and Korean vets. They told stories of their battles. Not bragging. Almost reluctantly, mostly to one another, in hushed tones, and occasionally I was allowed to listen. Even at the age of 10, I understood that the metal those men were made of was a stronger alloy than what seemed to me my generation was made of. I hope that the men and women serving today are made of the same metal that men like Clearance Wolf Guts were.
