When I was a kid, all I ever wanted to be was a Disney character - TopicsExpress

When I was a kid, all I ever wanted to be was a Disney character at Disneyland or Disney World. Yep, those were my high, high ambitions back then. My first gig on that short (failed) journey to dream fulfillment was some kind of volunteer thing for either Girl Scouts or The Key Club or I dont know. I was an avid volunteer for everything in middle school and high school, back when I was brimming with youth, energy, college-scholarship competitiveness and probably puberty-induced hormonal frustration. But anyway, they gave me a GENUINE, licensed, giant Winnie the Pooh costume to wear while I mingled with sick children. It was my moment of glory, the moment I had fantasized about for much of my young life. UNFORTUNATELY, no one told me how hot and heavy that thing was gonna be, nor did they warn me that it reeked of the sweat of the dozens of Winnie the Pooh impostors who had worn it before me. I had it on for a whopping eight minutes before I realized I was going to faint, puke or do both at the same time. In a panic, I yanked off the 90-pound head. A room full of children simultaneously screamed and burst into tears. I got fired at the 15-minute mark. It was the shortest gig I ever had, thus crushing my dreams and any hopes of a reference for a future Winnie the Pooh job. Sorry — so many of you on my news feed are at Disneyland or Disney World right now, it brought back this fond memory. Just had to share. Just remember: Inside that Mickey or Minnie Mouse thats hugging your kid right now is a sweating, suffering, possibly halfway-panicked person. But props to them for their dedication and the fulfillment of a dream. Thats some HARD WORK right there! ;)
