When I was a kid, the Sunday school people explained that Jesus - TopicsExpress

When I was a kid, the Sunday school people explained that Jesus told parables to make his ideas more easily understood. When I got a bit older, I discovered that He told parables to confuse close-minded people (Matthew 13:13-14). Jesus said, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world. (Matthew 13:35). He also said, I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for that was your good pleasure. Why, for instance, would Jesus so often work miracles then, yet now in our experience so often withhold them? It is not just a question of faith. What faith would lay claim to, life often denies. It is not that I question Gods facility with the miraculous, but observe: the undeserving often fare better than the innocent. That Jesus performed even one miracle suggests His superiority over circumstance. That He would withhold even one miracle hints at the mystery that colors His purpose. This is perplexing, contradictory; I crave disclosure. Yet the contradiction comes with intent, and I trust the Mind that holds the mystery. Faith may not lift the burdens of suffering, but faith does tell me: though Gods purpose may differ from my preference, there is purpose, not caprice...
