When I was a young lad and an over-confident poker player, a very dear friend of mine had a just 1 single and simple rule in any and all of our conversations. You can tell just *1* bad beat. A bad beat is a poker hand you played near perfect. You have great odds against an inferior hand. Yet, the last card out of the deck just changed ownership of all the money on the table. You go home empty handed. It sucks. And the desire to talk about it is just near irresistible. Just have a look at the bad beat section of any poker forum. But my friends rule taught me a great lesson. There is nothing to gain to complain in this scenario. You played the hand perfectly. You dont want to change that in the future. So nothing to learn here. Of course youd like to win. But the fortune wheel is, unfortunately, not at our command. After having multiple bad beats in a row, some players would say they were having a bad run. Truth is, the future is unknown. There is absolutely no reason to necessarily assume more bad beats will happen. This is the pessimist view. The optimist view, in exactly the same situation, would see he played well. He will trust himself to keep playing well. Even though he lost money, he is happy. His future is bright.
