When I was about a year old my mother took me somewhere in the car. This would have been around 1949 and there were no car seats at the time. The story goes that I fell off the seat and my mom took her eyes off the road for a moment. The car ran into the back of a truck. My father, being an amateur photographer, memorialized the damage with this study in black-and-white. I am sure my mother had more than a few words to say about this picture. The location was the driveway of our apartment on Lansdowne Avenue in Deer Park, just west of Plainfield Road. In the background on the left is a home under construction. The owners were Hank and Betty Schenz. Hank was a professional baseball player who played for the Pirates and was traded to the Giants just in time to play in the World Series in the early 1950s.
