When I was employed and needed to select hymns for a worship service, I had resources. There was a computer program that searched for key words in the text and played the tune. With my very modest and limited musical training I could tap out the melody line on an organ or piano. I could ask one of the organists to give me an evaluation of one I wanted to use. Now I have only a personal copy of various hymnals. Thankfully, there is YouTube. But, just because the name of the hymn is the same does not mean the melody is the same one in the hymnal we will be using. I have had to search by the name of the melody and double check that. Without YouTube the chances for success would be much lower.
