When I was in college in 1986, I stood in the WSU library, staring at the poetry shelves, amazed that for two epics, Iliad and Odyssey, there were over a hundred books of criticism. I wondered why, if all these people were so brilliant about epic, was nobody writing epics. I determined to write an epic the . I wrote a lot of verse but it wasnt until 2011 that I found my topic, so now I am writing an epic about philosophers and scientists as cultural heroes. For me, all the criticism became a positive challenge. I am very happy with my progress on the Hermead.
