When I was in the Army stationed in FRG (West Germany), I spent a week with a radar unit doing surveillance on a hillside over the border between east and west..this was back in 1971 when there still was a West Germany and East Germany (GDR)...As I scanned the horizon, I could see pill boxes with machine guns, barbed wires fences, cinder paths with dog teams, towers with search lights, tracking the fence-line at night...all intent on keep the citizens in East Germany prisoners in their own country...it was at that time that I realized how important it was to vote, and to ignore the usual cliches about voting for the least offensive candidate, or dont vote independently, youll only be wasting your vote...I vote my conscience, regardless...
