When I worked at Taco Bell there was this one incident I would like to share with you now. Two kids came in, and even though I was 5 years younger and the age of 22, these 17 year old people were still kids to me then. They ordered two tacos each, and a water. I gave them the clear cup. They grabbed the cups and went to the drink station to fill their cups will they waited for their food. Another person approached the register and I overheard the two teenagers talking, one said Just get pop, its not like they cant afford it. I asked the customer if they could hold on a second, he obliged me since he was unsure of what he wanted anyway. I walked over to the kids and said this. Why are you going to get pop when you didnt pay for pop? One responded with, Because we cant afford the pop, duh. Now, obviously as a Taco Bell employee I was not well endowed with a heavy wallet myself. But I was disgusted with their blatant ignorance but I asked them, You dont have money for pop. So we give you pop for free. HE (points to the customer) does have money for pop. He gives me money for the pop. Tell me how thats fair. The look they had on their faces reminded me of the dairy farm animals next door to my house, dull and stupid. I added to my argument, I do not have enough money for a BMW. I get a free BMW? He, has money for a BMW. He buys a BMW. No, thats not right obviously. Thats not how it works. If I take a BMW when I do not have the means to pay for it, it is theft. Regardless of what crimes and atrocities my brand has committed in your eyes without any knowledge of reality, its no excuse for theft. If you dont have money for things, you do not GET to have those things. I work at Taco Bell, to earn things. Not because I love Tacos, or this stupid purple shirt. Youre obviously 17, maybe 16. Look down this road... I can count a dozen places that will pay you for menial labor and you can now purchase this pop you so desire. Youll never catch me dead working at McDonalds. one quickly retorted. I doubt McDonalds hires cadavers. Regardless, with that attitude you will never be able to afford pop. Youre not worth working anywhere other than McDonalds right now, so consider yourself lucky for every penny you have. They grabbed their Tacos, and water, and left. The gentleman waiting to order asked if he got Free Pop for being used as a demonstration, he laughed, I laughed, and so did the few behind him.
