When Im open to seeing/hearing/letting them in, Ill get reminders of how what we do is so important. Have already experienced more than 3 such moments this morning: 1) a conversation with a wonderful student whom I first met when we had the BRIDGES/Green Floor Living/Learning Community - hes moving out of the area to start a terrific job doing social action work and he made the effort to say thanks and good-bye; 2) at Orientation/Green & Gold, a 1st year student who probably doesnt identify in the community but refreshingly didnt rush to tell me that; said that he thought it was REALLY great that Mason had our LGBTQ office - he works as an EMT out near Purcellville and has gone out on calls to suicidal LGBTQ folks who had no resources; and 3) also at Orientation G&G this morning, I watched a student walk by our table at least 4 times and glance over - I projected that he wanted so much to connect with us but just wasnt ready - Im so glad we get to be a visible presence so that he and everyone else sees that Mason values our LGBTQ community -
