When Jesus died on the cross, that same day, according to what He told the repentant thief on the cross — He went to paradise, to Abraham’s bosom. He said it in Luke 23:43, Luke 23:43 says: And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” When Jesus died He went to paradise where all who had faith like Abraham were being comforted, waiting of the fulfillment of God’s promise, the completion of their redemption. Jesus went to Hades and proclaimed the work was finished, God’s plan had come to pass, their sins were paid for, the work was done (1 Peter 3:19). And then, according to Ephesians 4:8-10 Jesus led forth those in Paradise taking them to heaven, into the presence of the Father, presenting them as forgiven, paid for, redeemed people. So Jesus transferred Paradise into heaven. Now paradise is in heaven. Hell is still hell. There’s still only two places you can GO when you die — heaven or hell — comfort or torment — paradise or fire…. Abraham departed from his body, but his soul went to be with the Lord == as 2 Corinthians 5:8 assures us, 2 Corinthians 5:8: We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Abraham had faith in the promised seed. If you have faith in the promised seed, in Jesus, you too can have this assurance that when you physically die, you’ll be gathered to your people — to those who have had faith who have gone before you. Not necessarily to be with your physical family — but your spiritual family. It’s truly gain for those who die in faith (Philippians 1:21). It’s not their loss….
