When Julie first went into the hospital I questioned why a 24 hour - TopicsExpress

When Julie first went into the hospital I questioned why a 24 hour coffee/donut shop closes early when its located in a hospital. Ten days later, Ive got a few more questions. Dont get me wrong, Im thankful for socialized medicine...who could afford this 10 plus day stay in the US? MH has been really good for Julie. And its not really about the care - just how the rest of us are treated. So heres my take on it. Or rant, if you prefer...or a message to Ontarios Health Minister. 1. Cafeteria has even worse hours than the donut shop. Why close at 6 (4 on weekends) when visitors coming from work usually show up about that time. 2. If youre going to close these places up tighter than a drum and youre going to make us use one of the many beverage/snack/sandwich dispensing machines - were you not thinking when you chose not to put a change machine nearby? 3. Whats with the really high parking fees? People want to spend as much time as they can when a loved one is in the hospital but, who can when youre watching the clock? Wouldnt the hospital want us hanging around - fetching and getting so that the nurses dont have to? Isnt it better for us to fluff pillows? Lower the rates guys...your staff will thank you. 4. Speaking of fetching and getting - why lock up the room with the ice machine. Every patient, since the dawn of hospitals wants to suck on those cups of ice chips. Why should a nurse have to schlep down to the room to get them? I can do it for cheaper and considering I cant administer real care, at least the nurses will have time to do that. They say its a clean issue but ice machines dispense nowadays. Theres no big bin to scoop out of. Those are only used to hide bodies in on television dramas. 5. And lastly, for now - and this is for the rest of the patient visitors - what the hell are you doing using the bathroom in a patient room? That bathroom is for patients only. There are signs on the doors. There are public restrooms on every floor. Why should a sick person have to wait for you to do your business? My biggest complaint? Julies still in the hospital. Shes not 100% yet but shes getting great care. So again, thank God for Ontarios healthcare system.
