When Mary Catherine sent me a video of her trapeze lesson this past September I could hardly believe my eyes. I was in awe! I admired her so much! She seemed fearless to me! Or maybe it is just that love of adventure and fun that was so much a part of her. Upon reflection then and now I think it also had to do with courage. Courage being the capacity to do what you want to do or need to do even in the presence of fear and sorrow, or simply uncharted territory. She was not only full of gratitude for life, she also had a good dose of courage! When I saw her fly through the air it seemed to me to be the perfect metaphor for her life and all she was in the midst of. Here she was leaving one perch, sailing through the air, and with arms extended and with the help of another, arriving safely on the other side! It is still is a powerful metaphor for me and my inspiration. Arms extended, ready for the next adventure, full of life, brimming with love, gratitude and courage. You go Mary!
