When Moses arrived at the Promised Land with the children of - TopicsExpress

When Moses arrived at the Promised Land with the children of Israel, he sent out some spies to go check out the land. He wanted some knowledge about what they were facing. Knowledge is power! He needed to know about the inhabitants and what they were up against. The men came back with a full report about how lush and fruitful the land was. But, they also came back saying that the inhabitants were giants. They literally said, “We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes. . .” (Numbers 13:33, NIV). But two of the men, Joshua and Caleb, saw things differently. They said, “We are well able to take this land!” They weren’t moved by what they saw; they were moved by what God had promised. What a difference. They all saw the same thing, but it was their different perspectives that made the difference. Notice that the first group of men saw themselves as grasshoppers, and Joshua and Caleb saw themselves as victors. Guess who entered the Promised Land? Not the grasshoppers, Joshua and Caleb did. Today, how do you see yourself? When you look at your problems, do you see yourself as a tiny grasshopper? Or, do you see how big your God is? Are you focused on your own strength and capabilities? Or, are you focused on God’s strength and capabilities? When I think about all these people had been through, I can understand why they were afraid. They had just spent hundreds of years in captivity as slaves. They didn’t want to be captured again. Too often, what we do is let our circumstances define us instead of letting God’s promises define us. I want you to know today: Your bad childhood doesn’t define you. Your divorce doesn’t mean you’ll never be loved again. Losing your job doesn’t make you a loser. Don’t see yourself as less than or all washed up! There’s a Scripture in James 1:23-24 that says when a man hears the Word of God and then doesn’t do it, he’s like a man who looks in the mirror and forgets what he looks like. See, God’s Word is a mirror. It’s an accurate reflection of who you are in Christ. But you can’t walk in the reality of His truth without overcoming some obstacles. You can’t get the promises of God without fighting a few giants. The key is that you can’t forget what you look like. You can’t forget that you look like a winner! You can’t forget that you look like an overcomer! You can’t forget that you look strong in the Lord and in the power of His might! Keep His Word, His mirror in front of you always so you can boldly enter the Promised Land He has for you!
