When Shirley and I moved to Sequim, Washington in 2004, because our property was out in the country outside of Sequim city limits, we had to put up a mailbox on the road in order to have a mailing address. The other properties in our area on our private road had their boxes about a mile down the road from our place. Shirley and I had obtained a mailbox at a private mail service in Sequim when we had moved there so that we could receive forwarded mail from California before we got everything established. In order to activate certain services we had to have the physical mailbox address. Shirley and I had bought our first sub compact Kubota tractor. We drove down to the far end of the road and we scooped out a hole and put a post in the ground next to the other boxes. We had taken a bag of concrete and a large pail of water. We cut the post off and attached the mailbox we had bought at the coop in town. Ta Da. We had a box. Later we did get some mail after we had signed up for some of our services. Our neighbors subsequently warned us that we should not have important mail delivered to our box. They said that there was a problem with theft from the boxes. We heard that from others. So for our three years there, all of our important mail went to our rented box. We only received junk mail in the box which we checked periodically.
