When You Come Up Short~~~ by Hannah Lannigan contributor to the True Woman blog Do you ever feel like youre continuously coming up short? We dont have to perform for God. Dishes in the sink. Mountains of laundry growing by the day. Bathrooms that need to be cleaned . . . again. DIY Pinterest projects arent turning out perfectly. Should have said this. Should have done that. Recently, I had one of those days. When I vented to my husband, he said, I have a word for you. What is it? Dayenu. What? What does that mean? Its a Hebrew word. It means Its enough. Its enough because Jesus is enough. What He did on the cross is enough. God looks at Christ in us. He proceeded to explain. During Passover, Jews sing that if God had simply split the Red Sea for them—Dayenu—it would have been enough. The song reminds the Jewish people that what God did for them was more than enough. Dayenu. I need that word plastered around my house! I declared. My husband must have heard me, because one morning, I awoke to find a sticky note scribbled with Dayenu on my cereal box. And another on my laptop. I started preaching that one-word sermon to my heart. When it was late and there were still dishes in my sink: Dayenu. I can rest for a few minutes. The universe wont fall apart if there are still dishes in the sink tomorrow. When my to-do list wasnt accomplished: Did I accomplish Gods to-do list for me today? Then Dayenu. You may ask: why is it enough? Its enough because Jesus is enough. What He did on the cross is enough. God looks at Christ in us, and Dayenu. We dont have to perform for Him. We dont have to have it all together for Him. HE is the one who is enough. If life, relationships, and peace depended on us, it would never be enough. But thank God, it doesnt depend on us! You and I dont have to perform. We dont have to earn glory. And the universe doesnt depend on us holding it together. Rather, when we walk with God in the moments and our words and lives confess He is our Lord, Jesus is our justification. HE is the one who is enough. Dayenu. May God plaster that word into our hearts! How does the truth of Dayenu apply to your life?
