When a Man needs a newspaper he will go to great lengths to obtain - TopicsExpress

When a Man needs a newspaper he will go to great lengths to obtain it. My step father Eugenio Jaramillo, a 75 year old architect is one such Man. Upon finding out that The 50 or so copies Run out quickly at The córner store here in The town of Villa de Leyva, Colombia - a store Run by a robust Lady who apparently smells like sausage, he devised a system involving our maids 15 year old daughter named María Paz. Since their house is only 3 blocks from The store where The fat sausage smelling Lady sells The quick selling newspapers, María paz could Walk there Early, buy The paper and hold it for Eugenio. In order to get there she must pass The old cemetery. That is where a group of young 16 year old boys flirt with her. They know that every morning at 830 or so she will Walk by. She is pretty much always on schedule and so are they. They are polite so their remarks or piropos as they are called here boat her ego. At 10 my step father drives to her house to pick up The newspaper. He gives her a tip. About 800 Colombian pesos ( 45 cents US). She told me she saves it for her notebooks. She wants to gradúate from high school. i dont want to depend on a Man , she told me with determination. So every day she saves a little. Every day The boys in The córner of The 18th century cemetery get to peek at María paz legs, every day The sausage smelling Lady sells a paper and every day Eugenio drives home at 1015 to read it. Its a ritual that involves a small population . Each one has a desire/ each one accomplishes something for The benefit of The other. And tomorrow, God willing, si Dios quiere as they say here, it will happen again. The only thing different will be The date on The newspaper and The names on The obituary page. Love to all, manny , Villa de Leyva , Colombia , april 19, 2014
