When a dog is very stressed in a situation sometimes they will “shut down” and often people mistake this body language as the dog being relaxed or tired. This video shows many trainers or pet owners mistaking a shut down for calmness. Force and coercion are not necessary to train a well behaved dog and if a professional trainer tells you it is then consider looking for another trainer with a better understanding of the science behind how dogs learn.
