When a sub-genre becomes popular, industry exploits it to its own end. It (the media, corporations, etc.), does not concern itself with the manner in which it portrays that which it exploits. Instead, it (*sarcastic cough ---> BET) presents a careless portrayal of that which it chooses to profit off. Turning that said sub-genre, in this case the beautiful art of DJing, into a caricature of itself. Case in point.
