When archeologists began excavating the Ancient Roman cemeteries, - TopicsExpress

When archeologists began excavating the Ancient Roman cemeteries, they found seven letters on practically every tombstone: NFFNSNC. These letters represented an old inscription ... so familiar to the Romans that they placed only the initials on the stones. They stood for the words Non fui, fui, non sum, non curo. They translated: I was not ... I was ... I am not ... I do not care. So children buried parents and wives buried husbands ... and over their graves was put this cynical summary of life: I was not ... I was ... I am not ... I do not care. Does it take any real strength to believe in such a hopeless creed?
