When are major global powers (Im talking to you, America) going to stop using health as a facade for espionage and political subterfuge - its happening again and again, and its jaw-dropping stupidity blows my mind. I missed this in the news a few weeks ago, but Americas ill-thought-out use of HIV workshops to incite rebellion in Cuba? PLEASE. Yet again, you completely undermine public health efforts - and therefore health security - in places with a huge burden of disease. It breeds resentment and mistrust, creating barriers to health-seeking behaviour. Recently attacks on health workers and facilities have been peppering the news cycle all too frequently, and theres unquestionably been an impact on current efforts to control Ebola, Polio eradication efforts in Nigeria, vaccination programmes in Pakistan etc etc etc. Health is not some insignificant poor relation or afterthought to other efforts in international development and security - its completely central to it. Sort your shit out.
