When chasing your dreams it is critical that you never give up because you can be three feet from gold. What do I mean? Three Feet From Gold… In the gold rush days the uncle of R.U. Darby believed that he too can become wealthy. So he set out west to dig for gold. He went to work with a pick and shovel. It was hard work but he was determined. Finally after weeks of hard work he was rewarded and had discovered a shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. So he covered up the mine and went back to his hometown Williamsburg, Maryland. He had told his family and some friends of his discovery. They got together the money for the machinery needed. The uncle and Darby headed back to the mine and began working. The first car of ore was mined, and shipped to a smelter. The returns came back and they had found that they had one of the richest mines in Colorado. So they kept digging and the mine was just about to pay for all the machinery and then the profits were going to roll in. The Darby’s were so excited that they had struck gold, literally. Until one day the vein of the gold ore disappeared. They drilled on, desperately trying to find the vein again, unfortunately they couldn’t. So they decided to quit. They sold their machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars. The junk man in turned called upon a mining engineer to do some calculating. The engineer said that the Darby’s had failed because they were not familiar with “fault lines.” He estimated that the veins would be found just three feet from where the Darby’s had stopped drilling and he was right. The junk man took millions from the mine, he was smart enough to seek counsel before giving up. The Darby’s were just three feet from gold. Do Not Give Up: You too Can be Three Feet From Gold I hope the story about the Darby’s have you looking at things differently. When you have the desire for something, do not give up just short of it. You never know but you too can be just three feet from gold. In business and in life in general there will be times when you feel like all hope is lost. It is not. Everyone faces TEMPORARY defeat, but just like anything that is temporary it will be conquered. If you have persistent, continuous action towards anything you wish to attain it can be attained.
