When i was in high school, a group of us getting ready to leave - TopicsExpress

When i was in high school, a group of us getting ready to leave Year 10 were put into a room where we had to tell the teacher and the group where we wanted to be in ten years time... My turn came and i said i wanted to be a famous makeup artist (meaning that i wanted to be working with famous people). The teacher took a long pause, a deep breath and a very patronising look at me before she asked Mandi, how many famous makeup artists do you know?. Naturally i answered none. She then went on to use me as an example for the rest of the class saying See class, this is why its important that your goals are realistic and achievable, you need to be sure about what you want to do. As if she thought my dream worthy of the ridicule from her narrow mind. I often think of this teacher, and i think of how many students in that class room actually paid any attention to what she said. I hope none of them did. I know i never did. Thankfully. If i wasnt me (filled with courageous determination, a willingness to ignore her completely, and a passion for makeup), and if i hadnt been blessed with awesome parents who always told me i could be and do anything i wanted to be and do; who knows where i couldve ended up!? Imagine if i believed her and her narrow scope of my dream? What might i have done with my life instead? I had a dream about this teacher last night, where i had an opportunity to face her and remind her of what shed said to me and how determined she was that i was going to fail. I would love this opportunity in real life, and what would i say to her? I would like to think i would handle it with a lot more integrity than i did in my dream last night! Teachers have a very important job - with precious lives in their hands. Its always much easier to lift someone up, than to bring them down. Thanks for reading my random ramblings this evening. Go follow your dreams!!
