When it comes to staff a lot of times It is easier to give birth than to raise the dead. Old habits die hard. Retraining someone to lose their bad habits is more difficult than training someone new from scratch. I think people need to be reminded of this on a regular basis. The difficulty is being able to see who is the issue. The ones who take this reminder as a wake up call and attempt to relearn are worth saving. They are realistic and do not lie to themselves pretending they are not slacking or piking. They admit it and correct it. They evolve. The others who take it as a threat.. They will complain to each other.. Make excuses and deflect towards others shortcomings to mask their own. They are center of the NEG party. Whining how unfair it is.. They think the company will not run without them and their stellar work. They will infect your other staff. Keep your eyes open and recognize who they are .. Then Cut them loose. They are dinosaurs if they cannot turn it around. I like to think that anyone can be saved, with that said.. Some people do not want to be saved. They wallowing in their own misery .. Never admitting the truth to themselves. Misery does love company. Sometimes being an effective leader is knowing when to get rid of someone. It may hurt your bottom line, team numbers, goals and forecasts. But I believe in the end it is hurting all of those things far more to keep them around. If any of this reminds you of yourself.. Realize it and make a change. Do not waste your life and blame everything but yourself for your misfortune. You will never keep a job, or have a career as long as you do not think you are the issue. 40 Years from now the stories you will tell will be of how you were done wrong, how you were mistreated and how unfair life has been to you. How unlucky you have been. Luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you are not prepared because you spend your day being negative.. You will miss all the opportunities presented. Think about it and then go out and make a change. Even small and temporary. Fake it till you make it. If you make an attempt to be more positive I can guarantee you that you will be. Try it. Go ahead. It will make your life better as well as everyone around you. Make yourself an asset rather than a liability. If you are unsure how.. Stop being lazy and look it up. The bull**** excuses you tell yourself will get old even to you. The age of technology is here and at your fingertips. Go make it happen and Have a great day. :)
