When it comes to the Finger Lakes, NYS does a lot of things right. - TopicsExpress

When it comes to the Finger Lakes, NYS does a lot of things right. One of them was buying the old YWCA camp in 1989 and turning it into a state park while preserving its history and features of it as a Y camp. My take on it - and a great place for viewing the fall colors: Onanda Lake is a jewel of a park nestled in the dogleg of Canandaigua Lakes West Lake Rd. Originally a YWCA Camp it was sold to NYS in 1989 for a public park use. If you want to rent one of the old YWCA cottages including the massive general hall and bunk house for large gatherings - be advised theres always a waiting list. It is a wonderful place to visit - not far from Rochester - across from the hill where the Ring of Fire bonfire starts the event for lakes side residents and has full views both up and down the lake. Great swimming beach and access to the Finger Lakes Trail system, too. youtu.be/HVHNA3ACvGU
