When mulching think DONUTS, not volcanoes! Piling mulch against the trunks of your trees can cause excessive moisture, which invites diseases and insects. It also stimulates feeder roots to grow up through the mulch, which cuts off the flow of nutrients. Mulch should be placed just beyond where the root flare enters the soil through the drip line. Remember, its not just aesthetically pleasing, it serves a purpose!
