When my grandfather died several years ago, I was touched by a resolution that was passed by the Alabama Senate in memory of his life. It said, Whereas, he was known as a kindhearted gentlemen who always possessed the attribute of bringing out the best in people. So my thought for the day is this: What if we treated everyone we encountered like they truly mattered? What if we showed love to the guy who cuts us off in traffic, the wino on the street corner, the hoity-toity sorority chick, the geek next to you in the cubicle, the pill-head, the guy begging for change at the Shell station, the hypocrite sitting in the pew, the judgmental self-righteous holier- than-thou, the guy making $8.50/hour at American Eagle, the girl who screwed up your order at Sonic...you get the point. What if we brought out the best in people? What if we treated everyone like they mattered? I dont want to miss this anymore, because for far too long, I inherently tried to elevate myself while lowering other people, just to make myself feel better. Im not better than anyone else, but no one is better than me. God loves us all the same, and I dont think he wants us to pick and choose who to love. Our goal as Christians should be to love everyone who is put in front of us. Make them feel like they matter. And that, my friends, that will fundamentally change lives. That will bring out the good in this world.
