When my parents were getting ready to move from the house my sister and I grew up in, there was fifty years of stuff to go through what to keep, donate or throw out. I chose to keep some of the hand made embroideries my grandmother had done and from the kitchen some of her pans/jars. Her embroideries are slowly making their way onto my walls where I can enjoy them. I kept a couple of the tin pie plates she used to make lahmadjoun [Armenian pizza] in, the large mason jar she kept boulgour in I use as my grateful jar and the large cookie sheet she made mante [tiny pieces of dough filled with a meat mixture] I use to make french fries. Anything, an item, a scent a food can bring back a memory when times seemed easier, safer and we had a sense of innocence. Anytime I cook or look at the embroideries I am transported back in time and for a few seconds I am able to close my eyes, take a deep breath and smile. Today I am grateful for such warm memories. Now go on and have yourself a terrific week, be good to one another, stay safe and do some hip hop! See ya!
