When my pro Canon SLR bricked last week I went into a slight - TopicsExpress

When my pro Canon SLR bricked last week I went into a slight panic. As many of you know, I never go anywhere without it, or a camera of some sorts. Not only that, I am planning an extensive video project where my cousin and I will be videoing her father, a decorated WWII Army veteran who survived The Battle of the Bulge, then went on to have a wonderful family and a long and fruitful career as a Methodist minister in rural Georgia. The stories he and my mother tell about growing up in the wilds of Montana, children and grandchildren of pioneers are the things of legends. Together, we are gathering those fascinating oral histories and stories on film with the goal of web and print publication. Mom is 91 and Buck the Preacher is 89. Anyway, I scrounged up a few shekels and whined at my personal professional photography consultant, John Brainerd, of Samys Cameras in Santa Barbara. I have been not only getting all my camera gear from him for what, almost 15 years now, but also sending all my friends and family to him for the very best service that you can get from anywhere, as well as some of the sharpest pricing on the Internet. (Not an easy thing to do with all the volume deep discounters.) But Samys is a large enough chain that they can match the big boys out of New York and such, but whereas to them you are just another faceless order, once you become a friend and customer of Johns, you will be taken care of for life! Just ask any of my friends who have traded with him. So John, feeling sorry over the apparent tragedy of my Big Dog camera being dead, sold me this Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 point and shoot pocket-sized digital camera. Knowing that I needed several features, including the 1080p video, as well as the ability to capture images in RAW, using extensive manual settings, he pointed me in a direction I would never have considered. Im a Canon man and have been for years, but he sent me technical information, as well as pointing me to consumer reviews, and I was skeptically sold. But over the years, I have come to trust his council, so I bought it from him, even though it was gently used. After putting it though its paces last night and shooting in some tough lighting situations, I couldnt be happier. This thing is amazing, and I know feel I can leave the Big Dog behind on my many upcoming business trips. At least the ones where I wont be going to interesting places or having any spare time to shoot. So, as we get close to the holiday season, and you or yours think about getting a new camera, I would highly recommend you give John a call at Samys in SB. His number is 805-963-7269 and they have full line of all brands and supporting equipment. Tell him I sent you and that you want the bro discount. And one more thing: If you have elderly parents or relatives, spend some time with them hearing and maybe recording their memories and stories. Some of our greatest national treasures are our elderly, and they lived through some of the most vital, challenging, and informative years of not only our respective cultures and communities, but they are a bridge to our own personal histories and ancestries. To me, that stuff is just priceless, and I am determined to make a record of as much that information that I can, because once theyre gone, so is much of who we are, and where we came from. Cheers and Happy Weekend!
