When none believed in me, Khadija(RA) did. She made me a partner in her wealth. Those were the words of the Prophet(PBUH) about his wife, the great Muslim lady; Hazrat Khadija tul Kubra(RA). She married the Prophet(PBUH) when she was 40 & he was 25. They had 6 children, 2 sons; Qasim & Abdullah(aka Tahir & Tayyab), & 4 daughters: Zainab, Ruqayya, Fatima & Umme Kulsoom ( Raziyallahu anhum ajmaeen). She lived with the Prophet(PBUH) for 25yrs & was his only wife during that time. When revelations came from Allah(SWT) & Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was made the last Prophet, it was she who accepted the faith & became the first Muslimah. She was 55yrs old at that time & her acceptance of Islam greatly helped its spread among the Makkans. She stood by the Prophet(PBUH) at all times. In times of trial & difficulty the Prophet(PBUH) Used to come to her & she consoled & comforted her husband, & encouraged him. Her wealth was used for the cause of Islam. The Prophet(PBUH) remained busy in preaching Islam & his devoted & loving wife looked after the children & family affairs. The Prophet(PBUH) & Khadija(RA) had many sorrows, they had to bear the death of both of their sons in infancy & in the 5th yr of Hijra their daughter Ruqayya(RA) left them & migrated to Abyssinia(Ethiopia) with her husband Uthman Bin Affan(RA). Ruqayya(RA) left her parents at a very young age & returned after 4yrs, that time was a long & painful separation for her parents. During the Prophet hood the Quraish did all they could to stop the Prophet(PBUH) from preaching Islam. Nothing worked, & he continued his mission relying on Allah(SWT). Khadija(RA) was his source of comfort & encouragement. She also had to bear enormous strain & suffering at Shabi(the valley of) Abi Taalib for 3yrs. The great Muslim lady Khadija(RA) passed away on 10th Ramadan in the 10th yr of Hijrah, 620CE at the age of 65. Her death was a great loss for the Prophet(PBUH) that he named that year as Aam ul Huzn(year of grief). He said: I cannot bear the scene, I believe that Allah has kept much good in it. He loved her so much, that after her death he used to remember her often. Her status was was such that Angel Jibrael(AS) used to bring salaam(greetings) for her from Allah (SWT). Young Muslimahs should know how devoted Khadija(RA) was to her husband & how much she did for him for the cause of Allah. Any Muslim today would be proud to have such a wife! The world could be changed by great Muslim ladies like Khadija(RA)!! :)
