When one points a finger at someone saying they are so and so, - TopicsExpress

When one points a finger at someone saying they are so and so, there are four fingers pointing back. Sen. Harkin is pointing a finger at Republicans, blaming them for the sour politics we see today over "ObamaCare". But looking back on the process to pass the Affordable Care Act, the legislative process was one of coercion, lack of interest in consensus building, lies, secret deals, backstabbing, parliamentary moves of the worst kind, and a behind-the-closed-doors authorship process completely outside of public scrutiny and feedback. There was no interest by the party in power to come to a bipartisan-consensus on what needed to be done, and then to come up with a solution which both parties could own, and which the vast majority of American people would accept. Even Nancy Pelosi said at the time that the bill had to be passed *before* we would even know what is in it! Is this how we should pass complicated, trillion dollar legislation that will hugely impact every family in the country? We really need to evolve towards "consensus democracy" rather than "coercive democracy". As it stands now, the well is so poisoned by what happened a few years ago that it is very difficult to get us back on track. nationaljournal/congress/senator-says-politics-have-reached-civil-war-levels-20130927
