When people lost trust on their leaders, whom can they turn to? - TopicsExpress

When people lost trust on their leaders, whom can they turn to? This is the ultimate question the people themselves must answer in the exercise of their sovereign power. They are presently boggled and disturbed by the maelstrom of infamous scams recently discovered and exposed in all branches of the government. The anomalies in the release of PDAF have tainted Congress and every legislator. So has DAP unmasked P-Noy’s “Daang Matuwid”. And now, there is M’am Arlene who holds the gavel in the judiciary. Until then, the people took for granted knowledge of petty thieveries by government employees. There were those who even admired the thieves as wise enough to fend for their families. They saw them acquiring properties here and there, building mansions in gated villages, often going on trips abroad. They looked in awe in their new found wealth but hardly asked how they got it. They just didn’t care. They think it’s just normal if the government was robbed of its resources. While majority of its population are mired in abject poverty, their officials are enjoying the life of the rich and famous. The poor lives in slums, jobless and forced to become criminals or beggars. The scums of the earth loiter and scavenge the trash and feed on left-overs. Meanwhile, on the nearby streets, roar flashy and imported cars bringing to exclusive schools uniformed and well-groomed children of government officials But now, it is clear as day. Every government official, elected or appointed, takes advantage of his office to enrich himself. In fact, corruption permeates and invades every walks of life. The church or sect where one belongs offers no relief either. Its priest, pastor, or head is also in love with money and is engaged in immoralities. The home is no longer a place where love and understanding abide. The father, its head, is a lazy bum, a drunkard and wife-beater. The mother is a gossiper and a gambler too, Nobody inculcates the sense of right and wrong on the children, Without somebody to guide them, chances are they will become drug dependents and eventually social burdens. Corruption exists also in business. Can the people point anyone who does not cheat? Too much corruption in and out of government. The people are fed up and won’t allow them anymore.
