When someone dashes back and forth quickly and the designer removes that you know the designer has a flawed philosophy. I like smash 4, I will play it. On a competitive level though Sakurai left out such important things that I dont see the competitive side of it last more than a year or two. No, dash dancing, no momentum from run to jump, the 60 frame delay before a re-grab and the new ledge mechanic all discourage an exciting tournament environment. Finally having some moves with a landing lag of 30 or 40 frames or more is also discouraging. Granted some moves have amazing landing lag at melee l-canceled levels but still having some with such high landing lag is quite destructive. Sakurai said in an interview Melee’s controls were, however, quite complicated and very tiring if the player really got into it in a serious way. This made the game less accessible for novice players and it basically ended up becoming a Smash Bros. game for hardcore fighting fans. I personally regret that, because I originally intended the Smash Bros. series to be for players who couldn’t handle such highly skilled games.. Im sorry but when a game has more tourney entrants than ever 13 years after its release you know there is something special about it. For its creator to regret that it turned out that way says a lot about his philosophy. Somethings are a definite improvement over brawl. No tripping, not being able to cancel hitstun. Some landing lag is really low. All good improvements. I dont think people should be afraid of voicing concerns about that game or should try to force it to be competitive if it isnt. Right now I think most people want it to be good and want everyone else to like it because if the competitive community doesnt they feel it will discredit their excitement for the game. So at the moment people are trying to discredit anyone who says anything negative about the game in order to silence people who they feel will threaten their long time excitement. People right now are trying to bully everyone into saying that this the best smash game. We know there will be patches. Why not use our energy more productively. Instead of attacking dissenters, lets focus on getting nintendo to patch the things which make the game less competitive. Lets get them to fix smash 4 before its history ends up repeating brawls history.
