When the Senate Primary season started (about 100 years ago) I - TopicsExpress

When the Senate Primary season started (about 100 years ago) I supported my friend Bill Flynn. I know him well, I like what he thinks and I had supported him for US Congress as well. It was an easy choice. Then he elected to leave the race. I took the time to research each of the remaining candidates. Frankly, the fact that Rand Paul endorsed Greg Brannon made me give him a very strong look. I had met Greg and certainly he is a great speaker and I highly admire his dedication to adoption and school choice. Next was Dr. Mark Harris. I respected his faith and service to the community. His big picture view impressed me. His 30,000 foot view of the landscape was sincere and backed with obvious respect for Ronald Reagan. I spoke with Heather Grant and appreciated her service and sincere patriotism. She certainly would take a seat in the Senate with a servants heart and soldiers dedication. None of the other candidates appeared to me to have the juice to make it. Something the polls later proved. Then I somewhat got around to the establishment candidate. Mainly because his wife was PMing me that I needed to look at her husbands record and get on board. Being an anti establishment type I reluctantly accepted an invitation from her to meet Thom at a phone bank opening. Then I met Thom. His story of up by the boot straps success got my attention. Then in looking a little more deeply at the role he played in getting a majority in the NC House I started to see a pattern of not just success, but success in the face of adversity. Looking beyond the sound bites I realized the man was even more anti establishment than me. He bucked the system, he term limited himself, he beat a two term incumbent two to one to get his seat. He changed committee structure and broke stongholds of power in the NC House to do the peoples business faster. When I came to support the Tilis campaign, it was after a fair amount of study of the candidates. Including meeting them. I supported Thom because of his record of accomplishment. In the year or so that I have gotten to know him I have never doubted my choice. As a photographer, I have had the chance to see him in formal, informal, public and private. I have been the fly on the wall. You know what I have seen. A good man that listens more than he speaks. Looks people in the eye. Answers honestly. A man of quiet and sincere faith in God. He is the same guy in all situations. Honest and sincere. He loves our country and he is running for the Senate to help give the next generation the advantages he had. Further, my wife and children respect Thom. He as been a friend to my sons and as many of said, you cant fool kids. I look forward to casting my vote for Thom. I hope you will too.
