“When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying a new tribe of people shall come to the earth from many colors, creeds and classes and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green.” Hopi Proverb I have known a few Hopi Indians in my day and I do not recall any of them ever using the word “shall” but I like the sentiment of this quote and when I read it the first few times, I thought to myself, “that’s nice,” and I went back to whatever I was doing and added waiting for the Rainbow Warriors to my list. Then one day while sitting in a chair and on the opposite wall were several of my paintings, it dawned on me, I was a Rainbow Warrior. Ugh! I was not certain if I wanted the responsibility. I have been painting rainbow people all of my life. It just felt right. And if I must paint with purpose it is for peace on our fragile planet, that we can learn to respect and accept all forms of life and honor them for their differences. “O me! O life! Of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, o me, o life? Answer. That you are here – that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?” Walt Whitman What will your verse be? I’m painting my verse in the powerful play. They will serve as a backdrop for my generation, always towards awakening, awareness and peace. The warriors of the rainbow are the artists of the world and there are more of us now than ever before. “In a gentle way you can shake the world.” Mahatma Ghandi I am grateful to be alive in this time of awakening and global consciousness shift. Provided that you are reading this and you are in the spirit of celebrating life with me, regardless of where you are, this is what I would like... one act of kindness… do a good deed. Give a homeless person a couple of bucks, let an elderly person go first in line, pay someone’s toll, read your children a book, put down the phone, turn off the TV and give someone you love your undivided attention.
