When the northern Wisconsin tribes asked the EPA to stop the proposed GTAC Mine, it was interesting to see the quote from Tom Maulson, Lac du Flambeau President, citing the 1996 Bad River Railroad blockade as an example of the kind of effort that will be needed to stop the mine. I am going through video I have of interviews following the blockade and came across this from then Undersheriff Bob Menard, talking about the veiled threats by Wisconsin Centrals troubleshoot, who said he could solve the problem if the Sheriffs Department looked the other way. A longer video of excerpts from that interview are on YouTube. Search You Tube for: menard bad river. A section on that sad business in 1996 is also included in the book Equilibrium, which you can find on Amazon and Kindle. The 96 blockade was truly a life-threatening situation.
