When the violence swept through the East Rand of Gauteng province following the assassination of Chris Hani in 1993, I was only a year old. I do not have any memory of the apartheid, I never experienced or saw anything. I have never been forced to stay out of school because of violence. I have never lost a family member to the bloody violence. I know nothing, absolutely nothing, about what it feels like to hear gunshots every night of my life. But on the 7th of May I am going to wake up at 6am and be on that queue by 7am. I am going to vote, and I am going to vote because blood had to be spilt to make sure that I can play on the streets of zone 8 Meadowlands without worrying about a khwela-khwela shooting bullets at me, like I did. I am not spoiling any ballot. I am going to vote!
