When they say that the diesel motor gets about 30% better MPG than the gasoline burner, they are on the high side and 20% is more realistic - especially in suburban driving. So if regular gas is $3.49/gallon but the clean diesel is marked up to $4.19/gallon - what has Joe Sixpack saved? NYADA! $3.49 X 120% = $4.19 ! And then if VW charges you an extra $3,000 to $4,000 up front for the privilege of ordering a diesel motor from them here in America - you are a big big loser! We need to demand price parity between gasoline and diesel if you ever hope to see diesel dominate here like it does in Europe! What we really need is for people to know that the ethanol that Algenol can produce from algae can be done for $0.75/gallon less than regular gas and to demand Congress tell the Big Oil companies to abandon fossil fuels nd to pay Algenol a royalty and pump E85 with 100 octane for our autos!
