When we look at the conversation between Jesus and Pilate there is - TopicsExpress

When we look at the conversation between Jesus and Pilate there is much to learn on the truth subject. We see Pilate’s question asking if Jesus was a king have a very interesting answer. Summarizing it, Jesus says “Are you asking this of your own, or has someone else made you ask this?” Why would Jesus ask this question? I posit, Jesus wanted to let Pilate know if he was indeed asking a genuine question or just using the question as part of his statement. (Jesus already knew what Pilate was thinking. Jesus was using a technique that makes the respondent (Pilate) think about his/her motives for asking the question). To put it more clearly Jesus is asking Pilate if he really wanted truth. One must be available and hungry if one truly wants truth. If one wants truth but has no willingness to accept it then what good was finding truth? It’s actually a negative to find truth and not be willing to submit to it, because now it may come misinterpreted with all the other non-truths floating around in one’s brain and even worse one may become desensitized to the overwhelming revelation of truth. Therefore putting one at a very huge disadvantage to come to the understanding of truth and accept the truth. We see this very illustration with what Jesus says next in this exchange of words. Jesus says,”They that are on the side of truth, listen to me” (John 18:37). If those who are on the side of truth listen to Jesus then that would put Jesus in an authoritative position (to be listened by). So if you reject Jesus then you basically are choosing to live a lie. In his book “Why Jesus?” Ravi Zacharias puts it so well when he says Jesus was not merely establishing the existence of truth, but his pristine embodiment of it. He was identical with the truth. This meant that everything he said and did, and the life he lived in the flesh, represented that which was in keeping with ultimate reality. And therefore, to reject him is to choose to govern one’s self with a lie… “The fact is, the truth matters – especially when you’re on the receiving end of a lie.
