When we sit down, we don’t tend to think much about what we’re sitting on. Since 1975, though, upholstered furniture has been treated for our (supposed) safety with flame retardant chemicals. Those chemicals have been linked to cancer, neurological defects, developmental problems, and impaired fertility. I believe we should all know what materials and potentially toxic chemicals were bringing into our homes, so we can make better and more informed choices.
