When we speak of true words spoken outside the Bible or the - TopicsExpress

When we speak of true words spoken outside the Bible or the church, we do not mean what is often called natural theology. By natural theology we mean a knowledge of God given in and with the natural force of reason. Even if this was theologically meaningful or practicable, which it is not, it could not give us what we need. By way of natural theology there can only be attained only abstract information concerning Gods existence as the Supreme Being and Ruler of all things, and humanitys responsibility towards him. But this is not what we are talking about when we speak of true words. What we mean is that self-revelation of the God who acts as Father in the Son by the Holy Spirit, in full agreement with the witness of the Bible as proclaimed in the church. We mean the gospel in which Jesus Christ is the object of faith and hope and love, witnessed in the Bible and proclaimed by the church. We simply mean that it is not restricted to the Bible or the church. Karl Barth CD IV/3, 117-18
