When we were kids, me and my bro used to spent countless hours at the seashore. Taking into account the fact that we live half a mile away from the beautiful Arabian sea, gazing the slow setting sun from the sea wall was a routine affair. Recalling those days when life was still on the slow lane, the times before college and work took over. In all likelihood, there was no single thing better than a long dip in the sea followed by fishing or the isolated crabbing from the sea rocks. Very sporadically, we used to catch crabs during the sunset, as it was one of the easiest and most effortless things to do. The simplest way was to tie a small bait at the end of a fishing net or the cord and sinking it between the rocks right next to the shore where the crabs happily retire. Drop in the line and wait for a minute, when you slowly pull the cord up, you will find a big crab chomping on that little bait. Place him in the container and you’re done… The first crab always tries to run out the container, using its long pointy claws, wriggling and slithering its way out which ends after we catch the second one. Once you get hold of a few crabs, and you put them all in that one container, there is no more worrying about crabs making their way out crawling, as the other ones will ensure they pull down the one which is trying to get out. Every time a crab moves up a notch with the help of his claws, the rest will pull him down with theirs. What they seldom realize is, independently they can escape the container, but they grab and clutch each other in an futile and worthless competition preventing the ultimate escape which only leads to a collective demise later in the curry pot… The crabs frequently reminded me of how we humans live each day with the same mentality and machination. When a fellow being wants to be something there is always a negative entity, that certain someone to pull them down with their invisible and sharp claws of a defeatist attitude. We all are being crabs to people around us is many ways we never imagined, by being a pessimist, by being unsupportive, by being gloomy, infuriating and unnecessarily unfair to someone else. We are all prone to affect the people around us, but when we effect them with negative vibes, it is as equal as pulling them down to the bottom of the crab pile of sorrow and dejection… When someone reaches out to you for help, and you irrationally hold them back from going to their next level with your negative attitude, as you are stuck somewhere n life and you hate to see others prosper, you are just being a Crab… Always keep in mind that your attitudes and advices can hold back others from becoming the kind of individuals that dream to be. So never diminish someones spirit and never try to bring down their positive outlook about life. Instead.. inspire, encourage and support each other so you can come out of the container together… and whatever happens, never be a Crab!
