When we were looking for inspiration for the design of our new Milk Chocolate Christmas Card (bit.ly/1vyfrAu), we found it in a familiar place. Claire Wright from our design team takes up the story. I discovered an archive photograph of the old canopy of Bettys Harrogate and I thought the intricate detailing would lend itself really well to a laser-cut design. I also liked the idea of making it personal to Bettys - I try to do that throughout all of my design work by searching for inspiration in the archive. I went back to the original architectural drawing to recreate some of the beautiful elements, and then carefully pieced them together to create a border that frames the card. It was quite a challenge to convert my initial illustration into a laser-cut design that was strong enough to house the chocolate whilst still retaining the detail, subtlety and elegance. The robin illustration is taken from an original Victorian Christmas card. I added hand-drawn snowflakes and stars which were gold foil blocked for a final touch of festive sparkle. Today’s Advent Countdown animation features the Milk Chocolate Christmas Card. See it here on Facebook or over on Instagram (instagram/bettys1919) or Twitter (twitter/Bettys1919).
