When writing my novel OUTCAST last year, I had an idea for my villains in that I didnt want their motivations to be evil. I wanted the horrible actions they took to come from a motive that was actually relateable, something people could actually understand and sympathize with. Not that it would justify their actions, they would still be crossing a line...but for me the best villains are not mindless killing machines but have some actual humanity in them that you can recognize. I wanted everyone in the story to have good and bad attributes, and I wanted there to be some gray areas, not just black and white. Not sure how well I succeeded, thats for the readers to decide, but I definitely wanted readers to go away thinking, I may not approve of what these characters did...but I understand why they did it. amazon/Secrets-Outcast-JournalStones-DoubleDown-Book-ebook/dp/B00MY1OIWE/ref=la_B005C18L7Q_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1410301886&sr=1-4
