When you don’t have to force bedtime, babies can have a much better night’s sleep, as it turns out. Here Emrys is clearly zonked all to hell and back, but if I tried to just pick her up and go lay down with her, she’d throw a big tantrum on me, and fight for a while before eventually crashing, and possibly waking up unhappy a couple hours later. Instead I like to take this approach, where we wind down, and she lets me know when she’s ready. Here we’re just playing on the floor with some toys, and after a while I give her a litter reminder that I’m here, and she has an “oh yeah” moment, realizing that she can come crash on me if she wants to… and she wanted to.
