When you look out onto the waters of Toledo Bend Lake (or Sam Rayburn Lake, Lake Livingston, etc.), remember that underneath those waters once lay homes, churches, communities and cemeteries. Through eminent domain, those properties and graves either be condemned or removed elsewhere. That is always a terribly hard and emotional situation for the families affected. Time heals, just not always completely. The photo attached is of a Caddo burial site called the Coral Snake Burial Mound that was on the Louisiana side. It is now underwater. An archeological excavation removed burial ashes, artifact bundles and related death offerings.
