When you lose your best friend at 18, you lose what it means to be 18 for a long time. You lose the fun, the carefree and the joy. Yes, friends were dying in Vietnam at 18, but this was the person I knew better than anyone else on the planet. When you lose your child at 18, the world divides in two.
